In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1).
Freedom from sin comes only one way, from belief in Jesus. To trust and to rely on something as true is the definition of belief. If we understand that the WORD of God is Jesus, then believing in Jesus is believing all the words in the Bible are true. I used to believe that just knowing Jesus was sent for our sins and trusting that He took them was enough, but Jesus says He came to give us LIFE and to give it more abundantly. I look at it like this, if I believed that my husband was bringing home a new couch after he got off work, I would do certain things to prepare for that arrival. I would move the furniture around, vacuum the floor, make arrangements for when he arrived. My actions would affirm my belief. If I had done nothing before he arrived it could mean a few things. Either I didn't really believe he was coming home at all, or maybe he was coming home but that he would probably never bring home a new couch. I could have believed he would bring a couch, but that I would have time later to prepare. I might assume he would patiently wait until I got ready to bring that couch in, while I got ready. Ouch...this is speaking to me on many levels. There are certain things in my life that I am putting off doing, because if I am honest, I am not LIVING as though I believe. Believing in the Word has to change me, it will mold my thoughts and affect my actions. Are there things in your life that show your unbelief? The first step is to identify those areas. Next step, go to the WORD. What does it say concerning those areas? Believing takes faith, and hard work, changing our thoughts and then also changing our actions to match our belief is "Working out your salvation with fear and trembling". Did we save ourselves? NO, but believing does. I pray that the Lord helps us all to recognize our own unbelief
and helps us to be truly free this season. God bless and Merry Christmas!
